I’m Alisha – a self-taught, slightly socially awkward baker who makes geeky themed bakes inspired by the fandoms we all love.

Welcome to my happy place!

The Geeky Baker is my small corner of the internet where I share fun recipes inspired by various fandoms! My goal is to help you create awesome bakes that make you and your loved ones smile. I believe anyone can bake, and with simple recipes and top tips, I’m here to make all your baking dreams come true.

How it started

Some of my earliest memories are baking in the kitchen with my Nan. She taught me how to bake. We started with fairy cakes and butterfly cakes, and over the years learned to perfect a classic Victoria Sponge.

Over the years I began to take baking more seriously. I’m self-taught, but would watch hours of YouTube videos and baking shows to learn different techniques. There were a lot of disasters along the way! I’ve had cakes collapse, dropped cakes on my kitchen floor, had flat cakes like pancakes, hard as rock cakes, tearing fondant, split mixture – you name a baking fail, and I’ve had it.

But failures are just lessons we can learn from, and that’s exactly what I did. I kept practicing, learning, experimenting and 2 decades later from baking in my Nan’s kitchen, I started The Geeky Baker.

Why I started The Geeky Baker

The Geeky Baker started in 2020, and I uploaded my first YouTube video titled “Ultimate Biscoff Cookies” on 1st January that year. I started with the basics and flavours I loved. My goal was to teach people how to bake, stick to simple recipes and give people top tips along the way to make their bakes a success.

A couple of months later the pandemic hit, and I decided I wanted to make my small corner of the internet a place where people could not only come to learn how to bake, but hopefully get a bit of relief from the challenges the world was facing. I started to include my mistakes, my bloopers, and welcomed people laughing at me, not just with me!

Over the past 6 years, my channel has developed but my goals have always stayed the same – create a cosy space on the internet where people can learn, and laugh.

Why “The Geeky Baker”?

I’ve always been “geeky” and always loved various fandoms – Harry Potter, LOTR, Disney, Marvel, Doctor Who, Star Wars, and more. I also love documentaries, war films, and in fact any true story films. When I created the channel, I looked “stereotypically geeky” too – I wore glasses, had braces, was a bit socially awkward (still am!), and I really wanted to lean into that.

At first I stuck to basic bakes with flavours I loved, but over the years I started to introduce more geeky themed bakes. Now, I only create geeky bakes inspired by our favourite fandoms, and I really love it! I hope you do too ☺️
